The Phantom 4 Advanced features a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor that is capable of shooting 4K/60fps and Burst Mode stills at 14 fps. The titanium alloy and magnesium alloy construction increases the rigidness of the airframe while also reducing the weight, making the aircraft lighter than the Phantom 4. The FlightAutonomy system additional has 5 vision sensors for a total of 2-directions of obstacle avoidance sensing, as well as forward-vision obstacle avoidance.

The Phantom 4 Advanced features a video processing system that can capture video in cinema and production that is optimized DCI 4K/60 (4096x2160/60fps) at a bitrate of 100Mbps. The Phantom 4 Advanced can also support H.265 video codec (maximum resolution 4096X2160/30fps.) H.265 doubles the amount of image processing as H.264, which produces a highly enhanced image quality. By recording in D-Log users will also get the most out of the image data for colour grading.
The Phantom 4 Advanced uses a mechanical shutter and a large-aperture prime lens. The mechanical shutter features a max speed of 1/2000s which eliminates rolling shutter distortion. The electronic shutter has additionally been improved with a max shutter speed of 1/8000 seconds. The new Burst Mode is also capable of shooting 14 fps at 20 megapixels.
The Phantom 4 Advanced has 5 vision sensors, dual-band satellite positioning (GPS and GLONASS,) ultrasonic range finders and redundant sensors so that the Phantom 4 advanced can ultimately fly and hover without GPS. Its dual forward vision sensors can see 30m in front of the aircraft, and enable the auto brake, hover, or detour functions in front of objects that are in a 15-meter range.

Forward – The aircraft will follow a route at a consistent pace with the camera facing in the direction of flight
Free – The aircraft will only move along the pre-planned route when instructed. This mode allows the camera to move in any direction during flight
Users can choose between:
Trace – Follow an object in front or behind while avoiding obstacles
Profile – Follow alongside an object with a variety of angles
Spotlight – Kepp the camera on one object while the drone flies almost anywhere and any direction
With TapFly users can simply tap on the screen and the aircraft will move in that direction while automatically avoiding obstacles. A new AR route function also enables the aircraft to track real-time flight direction for reference as the route is adjusted.
In Return to Home, the Phantom 4 Advanced can choose the best route to return home to automatically. The drone will record its route while in flight, to return to home while avoiding obstacles if the control signal is disconnected.
The Phantom 4 Advanced can also adjust its flight path if it has detected obstacles. The drone will record the launch scene below it and compare it to the scene it sees upon its return for safer landings. If there are obstacles on the ground such as water or rocks, the drone will alert the pilot to land more safely.
